How can anyone resist reading a book called Tootsies? I admit the name intrigued me and tickled me enough to give this book a shot. I’m glad I did. This is the first book I’ve read that is written by Sarah Black and it won’t be my last.
It’s funny how just a few hours can change your life forever. David Miller works as an English professor by day, but he’s really a poet at heart. When his first book of poetry, Sand Creek, is published and gets rave reviews, David is taken out to celebrate. He wakes up the next day in the mist of a sex scandal and with a very hazy memory from the night before. Even though the his superiors at the University know he’s been set up by some jealous peers, they put him on a leave of absence until the scandal blows over.
David just wants to find some peace from his world being turned upside down. He remembers the happy memories from his childhood when he stayed with his grandfather at the old run down cabin he had during the summer months. Those happy times and the warm memory of his childhood best friend and boyhood crush, Quanah Parker, who lived close by the cabin they used to stay at influence David to make a pretty spontaneous decision. He decides to stay at the cabin to reflect and write during the winter months without any thought of what kind of consequences this may bring. Unfortunately for David, he’s quite naïve about the harsh, unforgiving life of living in the middle of nowhere in a cabin that’s falling down around him can bring.
Almost as soon as Quanah Parker found out that his old friend, David, was staying at the cabin, he had a feeling that his boyhood buddy might be a little over his head. Quanah happily makes it his mission to situate himself firmly back into David’s life…and hopefully into his bed. Quanah has never forgotten the strong connection that they shared. As the men become more reacquainted, he hopes that David will decide that they really belong together forever.
I really liked this book. David is such a dreamer and often doesn’t always think things through. This gets him into trouble, but lucky for him, Quanah is there to help him through it all. I really appreciated that the book moved with an easy, slower pace. I felt like I got to know the characters, and I enjoyed watching the love blossom and develop between two childhood friends that truly were meant to be together.
Quanah was a very interesting character. Even though he has a foot fetish; that David learned to appreciate quite quickly, he’s a strong and solid character. There is an air of mystery about him that I found very appealing and I definitely understood why David had been so crazy about him all those years.
In my opinion this book is not only about the love that David and Quanah share, but also about self discovery. I liked how David’s character evolved throughout the novel. Even though he will always be a dreamer at heart, he learns that sometimes even though he had thought he’d lost everything, what he had gained with some self discovery and he found his dream come true with Quanah’s love to make his life very full and rich indeed.

Reviews of the Tootsies

FREDDIE
This is a very predictable author. When you get a book for free, you can read it. The intrigue is present, the unbundling is clear.

EMILIA
I read the whole book with a stupid smile on my face. General advice to everyone!

LOGAN

MADDISON
Interesting look on the other side
